Car A/C Cleaning in Suita: Toyota Esquire with a Sour Smell

This Toyota Esquire was collected from Suita City, Osaka, after a complaint about a sour smell from the air conditioner. Although the owner does not smoke in the vehicle, considerable dirt was visible on the blower fan. These six photographs document the vehicle, blower area, washing in progress and collected wash water.

1. Vehicle collected from Suita City

We travelled to Suita City to collect the Toyota Esquire for this air-conditioning cleaning job. Pickup arrangements depend on the address, vehicle and schedule; please contact us to discuss availability and a quote.

2. A sour smell from the air conditioner

The concern was a sour smell when using the A/C. The passenger-side footwell is shown here as part of the service record. Smell alone cannot establish its cause: the condition of the relevant components needs to be checked.

3. Blower case area

This photograph shows the blower case area. Inspecting the air-conditioning components helps us understand the condition of the parts involved in moving air into the cabin.

4. Heavy blower dirt in a non-smoking car

The owner does not smoke in this car, yet substantial deposits are visible on the blower blades. A non-smoking vehicle can still accumulate dirt. The photographs document visible deposits; they do not identify the material as mold or establish the sole cause of the smell.

5. Blower cleaning in progress

This is an intermediate stage of cleaning. Deposits remain visible between the blades in this photograph. It is a progress image, rather than a final after-cleaning comparison.

6. Dirty water collected during washing

The water collected during the cleaning contains visible dirt. This photograph records material removed by washing. It does not, on its own, demonstrate a final odor result.

WAKO’S EVC used for the finishing treatment

After cleaning, we used WAKO’S EVC evaporator cleaner as the finishing treatment. The evaporator is the heat exchanger that cools the air. The manufacturer describes EVC as an evaporator cleaner with a dedicated nozzle and antibacterial properties. It does not remove or inhibit all bacteria.

Why evaporator cleaner alone may leave an odor

If odor-causing deposits remain on the blower fan, its case or the air ducts leading from the blower, airflow may still carry an unpleasant smell even after the evaporator is cleaned. Applying a cleaner does not necessarily remove dirt throughout the entire air path.

We therefore assess the blower and surrounding areas to decide what needs cleaning. In this job, the visibly dirty blower was washed before EVC was used for finishing. Duct access and the work possible vary by vehicle.

Frequently asked questions

Can a non-smoking car have a dirty blower?

Yes. In this case, the customer reported no smoking in the vehicle, but visible dirt was present on the blower. The actual condition needs to be inspected.

Does a sour A/C smell always mean mold?

No. A smell alone is not enough to identify its cause. We discuss the symptoms and check the relevant condition before deciding the appropriate work.
